An Evening with Pip Hare, Vendée Globe Sailor, talk supported by BDO

 

Solo ocean sailor, Pip Hare, veteran of the Vendée Globe, the single handed non-stop around the world yacht race, is the speaker at this year’s Royal Irish Yacht Club Women in Sailing talk being held in association with BDO. In 2021 Pip became only the 8th woman to complete the Vendée Globe. Pip smashed all expectations as she pushed her old boat to a performance few thought possible.  

As a woman in a male dominated sport, then an older woman competing for sponsors, Pip has been told multiple times throughout her career she cannot or should not be aiming so high. This has never stopped her, in her own words, ‘If someone closes a door on me, I walk away from them and cut my own door somewhere else.  I am proud to have worked hard for every step forward we have made. 
 

MORE MEN HAVE WALKED ON THE MOON THAN WOMEN HAVE COMPLETED THE VENDÉE GLOBE. WHICH IS ALL THE INSPIRATION I NEED TO SUCCEED.
 

The solo sailor is now well on her way to the next solo circumnavigation in 2024. She’s got a new boat and a professional team behind her as she prepares a competitive campaign for the next race. After a boat refit over winter, Pip is concentrating on adjusting to life onboard a foiling IMOCA and learning how far she can push herself and her equipment in races including the Bermudes 1000, Vendée Arctique and Route de Rhum.
