INTRODUCTION TO SAILING

The Royal Irish Yacht Club runs a very successful Beginner and Advance Adult Sailing Programme.

The Adult Sailing courses in the programme are available to both RIYC members and non-members and are designed for people who are interested in:

•    learning about sailing, boat rigging, wind direction, points of sale, knots etc.
•    advancing their knowledge of sailing
•    becoming a member of the Club.

Designed for both members and non-members, this six-week Tuesday evening course offers a safe and enjoyable introduction to sailing using our 1720 Sportsboats. It's ideal for anyone keen to learn the basics, build confidence on the water, and get involved in Club life. If you have family or friends who might be interested, we’d be delighted if you shared the details with them—course fee includes an end-of-course celebration dinner in the Club dining room.

We use our fleet of "1720" Sportsboats, a 5 man keelboat that cannot capsize making it an ideal safe way of learning the sport we love. On completion of the course we expect each participant will be competent to crew on members yachts in Dublin Bay.

On completion of the course we invite participants to join us for an evening of fine food and wine in our dining room to celebrate their achievement.  This is included in the cost of the course.

We have 3 x 6 Session courses available this summer, all held on a Tuesday evening from 1800 hrs to 2000 hrs

Course 1 - 28th April - 2nd June 2026
Course 2 - 16th June - 21st July 2026
Course 3 - 4th August - 8th September 2026

The cost is €360. We can also offer participants a door fob to make your movement through the Club during the course easier. There is a deposit of €25 per door fob, which will be refunded when the card is returned.
