Our New Crane

Many of you will have seen the new Liebherr LRT 1090 crane on the deck over the past week. This is being commissioned at present and we expect it to be fully operational next week.

Our existing crane is now 27 years old and has been in service in the Club for the past 18 or 19 years. It is approaching the end of its working life. Miguel and the boat house staff have nursed it through several maintenance issues over the past few years and it is only a matter of time before it stopped working. If this were to happen during the sailing season it would be a disaster for the owners and crew of our many dry sailed boats.

We began a search about two years ago for a replacement and initially looked for a secondhand crane. Because of the specialist nature of the crane, we were unable to find a suitable secondhand replacement and turned our attention to new cranes. We narrowed the search down to two models and after conferring with a number of people who have expertise in this area, we decided on Liebherr LRT 1090.

This crane will allow us to continue to provide excellent service to our Members and is expected to have a useful life of thirty years.

We will be holding a formal commissioning ceremony in the next week or so.

Thank You
