SAILORS OF DUBLIN BAY TWENTYONES - THE WORLD'S OLDEST CRUISER RACER CLASS

Dublin Bay 21 Footer Geraldine, the World’s Oldest Cruiser Racer Class, at RIYC, Saturday 12 August

Some 120 years after they first appeared on Dublin Bay, the Alfred Mylne designed Dublin Bay 21 Footers have returned to racing DBSC with four of the fleet, Estelle, Garvogue, Naneen and Geraldine racing regularly on Tuesdays and Saturdays. This Saturday 12 August Geraldine, the latest addition to the fleet, will be alongside the RIYC for Après Sail. See at first hand the craftmanship involved in the fleet’s revival, see how to rig a Dublin Bay 21-Footer with its gaff sloop rig and find out how to become part of this uniquely authentic experience.  Designed in 1902 by Alfred Mylne for the Dublin Bay Sailing Club (DBSC), the Dublin Bay 21 Footers are One Design Classic Yachts, built between 1903 and 1908. All seven are now owned by the Class Association, led by Hal Sisk and Fionán de Barra. Work on the remainder of the fleet Oola, Maureen and Innisfallen, continues at Kilrush boatyard.
