JUNIOR SAILING

RIYC Junior Section has long been the entry point for children into the sport. Children may enter as the child, or grandchild of a member.

The Junior Section is running a TEAM RACING course starting on 8th October. Following very valuable input from parents we have decided to amend the original Team Racing Course to facilitate kids busy schedule.
We have decided to split the schedule into two smaller courses, the first being 5 weeks before Christmas. A second 5 week course will be arranged in the spring closer to the schools team racing events, details of which will be arranged at a later date.
The following outline is for the 5 week winter course which will now start Sunday Oct 8th at 1pm. There will be one session every two weeks. Should we miss a session due to bad weather we have the option of rearranging it for the following week. Also, we have only one session taking place over the midterm break instead of two which should facilitate families wanting to go away.

Junior Section runs from June to August each summer and the program is always well supported. Children are tutored in the Small Boat Sailing Scheme with progress awards made based on formal assessment throughout the summer.
Courses are run on a weekly basis, from June to August 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, with lunch included. Boats can be supplied for those who haven’t yet committed fully to the sport. If your child is keen to pursue the sport further, the club’s Sailing Services Manager can offer assistance with making the correct choice of boat.
Members' can book online from the members' area, or you can download the form on the left.

In order to encourage participation, we encourage members to introduce their friends to the club and we allow the children of non-members to participate in Junior Section for one three-week period. Thereafter, the parents/guardians are required to put themselves forward for election as Ordinary Members and upon election their children can be enrolled in Junior Section as Junior Members.

At the RIYC we also keep a keen eye on developing talent. With a focus on youth sailing, the Club has run such events as the Optimist East Coast Championships, Feva Nationals, Mirror East Coasts and the RS East Coast Championships along with our annual infamous Junior Regatta in July.
